Nestled under a giant 1000-year-old jackelberry, towering wild-fig and marula trees, on the banks of the Makhustwi River, this Lodge is built in perfect harmony with nature. The river valley along with the “High−Tea” watering hole at the lodge’s front, brings a mystique like no other.
Lodge History
The lodge has been beautifully designed to match the natural colours which surround it. The buildings feature thatched roofs and strong earthy colour walls creating a warm and welcoming ambiance for guests. The main lodge and the rooms have all been decorated using traditional African patterns, designs, and artworks. The lodge is within the wildlife-rich reserve which is home to hundreds of animal species including the famous African "Big 5”.
The Lodge is spread over 8 beautiful and exclusive-use Suites. Toro River Lodge offers five spacious and luxury rooms featuring shared swimming pools, lounge areas, open-air restaurants and a closed dining area. The rooms at the Lodge are individually decorated with African-inspired themes providing en-suite bathrooms, a fireplace, an outdoor shower and a private viewing deck. The king beds provide mosquito nets.
The lodge nestles in 26 000 hectares of land which is home to Africa's magnificent wildlife. The most widespread activity is the daily safari drives. Safari drives depart twice daily, in the morning and the afternoon. Guests are taken out of a 4 x 4 vehicle and lead on a hunt for the wildlife that calls the reserve home. If guests are lucky, they may have the opportunity to observe Africa's "Big 5."

Lapa
These popular structures, with thatched roofs supported by wooden poles, are commonly used in South Africa as open entertainment areas. Striving for excellence, the Lapa at Toro River Lodge is more luxurious than the traditional. This living room is a place of meetings and stories.
Boma
In ancient times, a boma was a livestock enclosure, stockade, corral, small fort or a district government office and community. This term is incorporated into many African languages, as well as colonial varieties of English, French and German.
Our version of a boma is a place of evening gatherings around the fire, a place to enjoy your dinner in a private, safe and charming environment. The warmth, intimate and pleasant atmosphere accompanied by the unspoiled night sounds is the perfect way to end your day.
Bar
Hot or cold, alcohol or non-alcohol, whatever your personal preference of beverages, our bar is always fully stocked.
Brunch
Not quite breakfast, not quite lunch. In South Africa, brunch is a favorite activity of many families. It is globally-distinctive in that the food consumed is light, buffet type but also very carefully chosen. Experience the taste of Africa accompanied by a sip of Safari to tingle the taste buds.
Safari Catering
Our catering follows you everywhere to ensure that you can enjoy the true splendor of the break of dawn, whilst getting that special glimpse of the wildlife awakening, without having to worry about a rumbling stomach.
