Notice the Mexican 'Sombrero', which has raised R1000 for every km?

The Story behind...

"Basically, I was just at a friend's house, he used to own a Mexican restaurant and he had all these Mexican "sombreros". So, I just said to all my friends on Facebook, if you guys donate R1,000 or so, I will wear the hat the whole walk, so that is what ended up happening, I raised R 1,000 in 2 minutes, I should have said R10,000 so I did not have to wear the hat the whole walk" said Mike Job, owner at Siyafunda

The economic crisis facing the tourism industry and photographic safaris, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is the engine that drives members of the "Siyafunda Wildlife and Conservation" Volunteering school, now joined by other members of anti-poaching teams, rhino monitors and rangers, Wild Animal Nature Reserves, their private owners, ALL united for the same cause in this physical and mental challenge to raise funds for chosen wildlife charities.
R112,200 are already in The Rhino Protection Trust account, as of July 20th, 2021

Participants appreciate any support and donations you can offer, no matter how small. like Ash and Josh Wilkings, an 11 and 15 years old from Cape Town, both wanted to show their support, so it was from their own bank accounts.

"Hi Ash and Josh, this is Willem who did the rhino fundraising walk together with Lyndsey. Cindy told me of the donation you made towards the rhino fund and I'd like to thank you on behalf of the rhinos. It makes me very happy to see the next generation stepping up to conservation, every bit helps, whether you do the physical side like Lyndsey did or the financial backing like you guys did....the one can't be without the other. So again many, many thanks and may you be blessed." Says Willem Scheuer

Well done to all, an amazing achievement and a lot of valuable funds raised for rhino protection.

We are asking all friends, previous/future guests and any animal lovers to donate generously in support of the below fund raising account on completion of the walk.

All funds will go to a specific Rhino Saving cause on the Reserve.

The money raised will be used to purchase much-needed equipment to help protect local rhino populations with the purchase of camera traps, tracking / monitoring equipment, and preventative actions.

"Lisa and Clint, Many thanks for your generous and much appreciated donation/sponsorship of Lyndsey and the Makalali Rhino walk.
The funds made it into the Makalali Conservation Account and have been specifically allocated along with the other Rhino Walk Funds raised for Rhino conservation and protection work on the reserve. Our very best to you from all on Makalali, as well as Cindy, Darren, Lyndsey and myself, said Brad Philipps"
